Lotus Flower Healing

Lotus Flower –Nelumbo Nucifera

Over the past 6 months I have gained an interest in essential oils and have started using them for the medicine cabinet, for meditation, beauty and cleaning.

There really are so many great uses for these oils and its not just to put in the oil burner to smell nice!

Today I wanted to talk about the Lotus flower as many people may not be aware of this great flower and what the essential oil uses are.

The lotus flower, also known as the scared lotus, lotus, Indian lotus and Egyptian lotus comes from the plant family Nelumbonaceae.

Traditionally the Egyptians was portrayed in Ptolemaic art of Egypt from around ca. 300-30 BC. The lotus is scared in both Hindus and Buddhists and has been used in South East and East Asian traditional medicine and cuisine.

The lotus flower is a symbol for a pure heart and mind with good health and a long life.

Enhances spirituality and great for meditating by bringing clarity, calm mind and improved concentration. Bringing harmony to the body, strengthens your aura and aligns your chakras.

Here are some benefits to the lotus:

  • Helps with a cough – put some lotus seed powder with honey to help clear up your cough

  • Period pain – Help ease period pain with lotus leaves and root extract, lotus juice or soap

  • Lower levels – helps lower your cholesterol and blood sugar with the fibre and complex carbohydrates and slow down the digestive process.

In addition to the above, here are some Essential oil uses

  • Increases circulation, is a pain killer (anesthetic), antispasmodic

  • Helps calm the mind, enhances mood and concentration

  • With meditation it helps with awareness, self actualisation, opens your third eye and heart chakras.

Remember to only use essential oils with carriers or buy the premixed essential oil. Don’t use essence, you want the actual essential oil
